The President of the Arbitration Court has given an interpretation of the award in the Typographical trade as far as it concerns ’Wellington, to the effect that jobbing compositors are entitled to he paid a weekly Wage of £3 without any deduction for the holidays specified under the award.

A large and representative meeting of teachers passed a resolutoon ex pressing profound dissatisfaction with the present scale of salaries, in which the average attendance is the sole determining factor. The leading principles for an improved scheme were affirmed, the chief, being a small number of grades of schools, periodic increments for length of efficient service, and such adjustment as will raise the pay of the rank and file of the profession.

AJcKitmori, manager of New Zealand Truth newspaper, was charged with having sold sundry copies of the paper, part of the cor. tents of which w'as of an indecent, immoral, and obscene nature. The Magistrate held that as McKinnon was absent from Wellington at the time of the publication, and had no reason?* bio opportunity of knowing the contents of the article, the information should he dismissed.

An inquest was opened on Saturday on the body of’ Airs. Eliza Bell, tbe victim of the Brooklyn tram accident. The coroner said it was bis intention, in order to avoid as far as possible the risk of future accidents, to take all available evidence as to the cause of the accident. Dr. Hogg, who was willed .to attend deceased, said he found that she bad sustained injuries to Jier skull, .cheekbones, and pose, and fractures of. the breastbones and of tbe ribs of the leit side. There was no doubt that the. injuries woro caused by the car falling on deceased. The inquest was then adjourned until Tuesday.
