Tho monthly hostipal report showed that there were 29 patients remaining from last month, It had been admitted since, 11 were discharged, and 2 had died, leaving 27 in tho institution at date. Tho treasurer, Mr. J. A. Harding, prosontod the following financial statement: —ltocoi pts: Interest, patient’s fees, and subscriptions, £2O Os; amount at credit at bank N.Z. on April 19tli, £B9 14s Id; accounts passed on April 19tli, £149 11s 9d; red it balance at Bank N.Z., £3O i 19s; cheques not presented, £OS Os j 8d; District Board Requisition, due I 30th April, £lB7 10s; accounts pre- ' seated, salaries, £59 5s 4d. Tho visiting committee, Messrs. Lysnar and Matthews reported that everything was progressing satisfactorily at the Hospital. There had been no complaints. The Chairman said he had visited the hospital two or three times, and he had found things as he had always found them. No one had ever made a complaint io him at any time, lie had visited one of the patients about whom they had had some correspondence. This patienl made no complaints, but expressed himself as thoroughly satisfied with the' treatment ho had received. The Public Trustee’s agent, at Dunedin, wrote asking the Trustees to forward mementoes belonging to . a late patient to Mrs. Sharp. Auckland. —The secretary stated that the trinkets had been forwarded. Tlie applications for tho position of medical suporintendant were then read. Mr. Kenway moved that tho mooti ing go into committee for the further consideration of the letters. Mr. Bright seconded. Mr. Lysnar objected to the meeting going into committee. He thought tho applications should be , discussed openly, and dealt with ac- | cording to their merits. Mr. Tuohy seconded, providing that they did not break faith in regard to past confidential correspondence.

Mr. Matthews suggested that they should go into committee to discuss the procedure of dealing with the letters, and then permit the press to

return. Air. Non way’s motion was carried, Air. Lysnar voting against it. Nine applications were received for tho position, which were reduced to four, and eventually to two, these being referred for further enquiry.
