There are over 100 pickers in Auckland, and they intend to place their grievances before the Minister for Marine. SATURDAY HALF-HOLIDAY. . CHRISTCHURCH, yesterday. The Mayors of Kaiapoi and Eangiora, with prominent business men in each town, brought under the notice of Mr. Buddo, M.H.R., the inconvenience that would result if permits to hold the half-holiday for shops and factories on the same day in the week were withdrawn. Mr. Buddo telegraphed to the Minister foi' Labor the following: “Kaiapoi and Rangiora traders with shop and factory combined greatly inconvenienced at withdrawal of permits to hold the weekly half-holiday bn one day. Business men of both towns would welcome a universal Saturday half-holi-day, but the small traders will be tied to business six days a week unless one half-holjdav does the shop and factory, and respectfully ask that the present system be extended till Parliament meets and something definite is decided.”
