The local A. and P. Committee have resolved to approach the Justice Department with a view of obtaining either a more regular sitting of the Magistrate’s Court or a resident Magistrate in the Opotiki district. A fair number of applications have been received for the position of medical superintendent at the hospital. The matter will bo dealt with at a meeting of the Trustees on Friday night.
Wellington City appears to be the only place in New Zealand where any quantity of Government discount stamps is utilised. During the March quarter, for the whole of the colony, the stamps sold only amounted to £716 (as against £761 for the same quarter in 1906), and of this amount Wellington was responsible for £695. Auckland, Thames, and Napier were the only other customers.
