RAKAUROA NOTES.
(From our own Correspondent.) The nmiunl meeting of householders of the Itakau •on district wns lield on the evening of 22nd ilist, nhout 20 householders being present. Mr. Mel’hoe was voted to the chair. The balance-sheet, showing a credit balance of £2 19s, was adopted, and the new committee duly elected as follows: Messrs. Mcl’hee, \V. It. Clark, IV. Graham, J. Jtl. Honufoy, and Iterlpath. At a meeting of new committee .Mr. Mcl’bee was elected Chairman, and Mr. Boaufoy secretary. At the meeting of the Itakanroa Library, held on the same date, date, the ha lance-sheet, showing credit of over £o available for further purchase of boles, was adopted, and a committee elected for the ensuing year, of Mr. F. Shaw, chairman, and Mrs. Boaufoy, and Messrs. Hutch in sou and Itodpath members of commit teo.
A public mooting was then held t appoint a Hoard ol' Trustees for the Itakauroa cemetery, when Messrs. F Shaw, Burgess, and Redputli were nominated for tlie position; also it was resolved to ask the Cook County Council to form a short pioco of road between the now AVaihuka \ r nlley road and the Ngatapa road to enable traffic to pass by this road during the ensuing summer, and further to ask for an estimate of the cost of completing the AVaihuka Valiev road fioiTi the engineer of the Cook County Council, with a view to taking stops to secure a loan or Government grant to complete the work. Further the meeting decided to recommend the appointment of Mr. H. Riddick as a Justice of the Peace, as those present were of (lie opinion that this has become necessary in view of tlm increase of settlement up the Motu Valley road and Mounui districts. FARMERS’ UNION. The annual meeting of the Rakauroa brunch of the Farmers’ Union was held on the 22nd, Mr. Rcdpath in the chair. Correspondence was read re telephone office at Matawai stating that the matter of a telephone office there I as well as at Rakauroa would most probably be granted. The officers elected for the ensuing year are as follows: Chairman, G. Redpatb ; vicechairman, J. Hutchinson; secretary, E. H. Burgess ; delegato to provincial conference, J. Hutchinson; auditor. G. Rcdpath; and members of committee, Messrs. AV. Graham, IT. Cooke, H. Riddick, A. McLean. AV. Clark, J. Blair, AV. Cunningham, and F. Shaw. It was resolved to urge on the Public AVorks Department the more vigorous prosecution of the Pnkilii road, as the volume of traffic between Gisborne and Opoti'ki fully warranted it being completed without delay. Otlier roads in the immediate district to be forwarded to the Cook County Council to be included in the requirements for the district, were approved as under: Motu road, Neill Road, and AVaikoliu A’alley road, all for a continuation of the dray road thereon. It was' pointed out. that on none of these roads was there any expensive work required, and settlers were fully' entitled to have further access granted them. At present the wool from some 15,000 sheep has to he packed on horseback or the sheep driven from home for shearing. On the motion of Air. Hutchinson, seconded by Air. Graham, it was resolved that the chairman and secretary’ call meetings whenever necessary in the interests of tlie district, and to transact necessary business.
