THE A.M.P. SOCIETY.

The progressiveness of the Gisborne district, and the increase in the volume of the Society’s business there, has decided the Principal Board in Sydney, on the recommendation of the New Zealand Local Board in AA’ellington, to open a district office in Gisborne, in charge of a trained officer of the Society. Hitherto the Society’s business has been most satisfactorily conducted by Messrs. Dalgety and Co., but the time has arrived when it is considered advisable in the interests of the Society to make a change. Mr. J. C. E. Kissling, an officer of the Society who has occupied the position of chief - clerk in the Society’s Auckland office, has been appointed to the posit ion of district Secretary in Gisborne. Mr. E. AA T . Lowe, the Resident Secretary of the Society in New Zealand, has been in Gisborne securing an office, and making arrangements for the opening of the district office on the Ist May. The Society has secured accommodation on the first floor of the Union Bank, in Gladstone road—a front room, so'that it opens ill one of the best positions in the town. InJuly, 1871, when the Society opened its bj'anch in AA’ellingtonr it had a locaHagency in Gisborne, and the business amounted to 15 policies assuring £3750, with an annual income of £123 18s. The new district office will be opened with 518 policies on its register, assuring £178,000. producing an annual income of £5292 5s 3d. The Society is also deeply interested in the district in other ways, having loans on mortgage to the extent of £126,650, and a loan to the Borough Council of £75,000 for its waterworks, making in all £201,650. so this indicates the faith the Directors of the Society liave in the future of tho Gisborne district. The Society may, of course, be regarded as part and parcel of New Zealand, judging from the enormous interests it has in in the colony. When the branch was established at AVellington oil the Ist July, 1871. it opened with a total income throughout New Zealand of £17,189 per annum, and assets of £IOOO. To-day it has ail annual income of over £500,000 (half a million) and assets on the branch hooks of £4,141,979. This shows its wonderful progress and the faith the people of flic colony have in the Society. AVe wish the new departure of the Society every success, and that it will prove advantageous to all concerned.
