His Honor Mr. Justice Chapman, during argument in the Court of Appeal at Wellington, had occasion to refer to the different attitude which jurists of to-day take up towards persons found guilty of certain offences, as compared with the views expressed and carried into effect by judges of hut a few years ago. Particularly was this the case with regard to the crime known to the law as “blasphemy.” “Why,”, said his Honor, “I very well remember a man in New South' Wales being sentenced to two years’ imprisonment for saying that Moses was a murderer, and that was only So years ago!”
