TRADE OF THE COLONY
Press Association. AUCKLAND, yesterday. An indication of the growth ot trade at the port of Auckland is furnished by a return just compiled bv the Customs Department. Durin«- the quarter ended March olst last the total value of exports was £1,008,706, which is easily a recoicl, exceeding the previous host quarter (which ended on December 31st last) bv £06.033. The value of imports v'n.s £1.012,510, as compared wifh tiie previous record total of £1,121.0i0 of the last December quarter, being a decrease of £103.560. although the duty collected (£197,766) exceeds that of the previous quarter by £6OOO. ’ . , WELLINGTON, yesterday. A summary of the working of the port of Wellington for the half-year ended March 31st was presented to Hie Harbor Board to-day. Tins showed that compared with tho corresponding period of the previous vear, there had been an Increase. ot 359 in the number of vessels arriving the total tonnage being 2,659,338. an increase of 360,658. There was an fhcrense for the Involve months of outward foreign shipments ot 1/.34.S tons, and of colonial aml_ coastal shipments of 9,716 tons. Wool shipments increased by 288 i bales, and hemp bv 12,854 bales. The imports 'increased from 120,311 tons to 134,930 tons.
