Sir, —It. is to be hoped Unit one of j the first acts Mis Worship tho Mayor will undertake to have done will he tho removal of all" those mimoi of volunteers which monopolise three sides of the monument which alone should perpetuate Cook’s memory. If His Worship is too slow- and cannot realise tho absurdity of tho names being thoro, perhaps some of the new Councillors will move, in the matter and insist upon its being done. I hope the matter is not going to bo dropped, and that before next October, the anniversary of Cook’s landing that ho will have justice done to his memory. —I am, etc., KAITI.
