TTJRANGANTJI DEFEATS GIS- i BORNE. ' i 1 The return match between the 1 Gisborne and Turanganui Bowling ' Clubs was played yesterday afternoon at the latter club’s green. hiyc rinks wore played, the green being in ipleudid order. The Gisborne teaiiis wore welcomed by the President (Mr G. Matthowson), who, in a neat speech, hoped the visitors would enjoy themselves, and that good games would onsuo. Play then took place, with the result that Turanganui defeated tlioir opponents on the aggregate by IC, the scores being: Turanganui 100, Gisborne 84. The Gisborne teams went down in every rink, excepting that of Ponslord, where ho held his opponents sale, and considerably assisted the Gisborne aggregate. Afternoon tea was dispensed by tlio ladies, and was much appreciated. # . On the conclusion or play, tlie President thanked the Gisborne teams for their visit, and though Ins club had proved victorious he would not boast of it. lie stated that' Mr Simson had during the play promised a silver medal to the winning club, and his club had secured it. A suggestion had been made that a match be played “for the conqueror, as each club had secured a win. For his part ho would like to seo the match played. On his call cheers were given for the Gisborne Club. Mr. J. A. Harding, President of the Gisborne Club, thanked the members of the Turanganui Club for tlioir hospitality. His club had been bouton, and beaten fairly,and he had no excuso to offer. He hoped that if a match “for the conqueror” could not he played this season, that it be the first fixture for no'xt season. Cheers were then given for Turanganui Club, the President, and Mrs. Matthowson. Mr. lan Simson said that as the

result of the play of the Turanganui Club, ho would be pleased to present them with a gold medal—a statement that was recoiled with cheers. Tlio following are the details of the play, the Turanganui Club being placed first in each instance: Hepburn, McSkimming, Williams, Matthewson (skip) 17 v.. Ambridge, Ciissen, Robertson. Pettie, Harris, Ponsford (skip) 30; Jeune, Neill, Nasmith, jun., Skeet (skip) 20 v. Eure, Seymour, Nicholas, Coleman (skip) 19; ITallam, Maekrell, Bennett,Martin (skip) 27 v. Neale, Wallace, Hennessy, Crawford (skip) 9. Totals: Turanganui 100, Gisborne 84.

CHAMPION CUP. • Play for the above cup was continued at. the Turanganui Club’s green during the past week, with the following result:—Third round: Nasmith (jun) defeated Morse. Sixth round: Nasmith (jun) defeated McConnell, Martin defeated Lucas, Morse defeated Colley. Eighth round: Martin defeated Jeune. Ninth round : McConnell defeated Morrison. Tenth round: Lucas defeated Jeune, Morrison defeated Skeet. Eleventh round: Nasmith (jun) defeated Lucas, Jeune defeated McConnell. Twelfth round: Skeet defeated Maekrell.
