A Seddon correspondent writes to the Marlborough Express as follows: —“Sir, —l cut the enclosed' paragraph from Lloyd’s Weekly News of 13th Ja unary.- The million and a. quarter of Lloyd’s readers will get •a cheerful idea of life in New Zealand from it:—‘A life-long reader of Lloyd’s writes from Palmerston North, New Zealand, that there are as many starving out there as there are in TCngla nd. -A mini is, he d<>eliiros, better off in England on 10s a week than there on 8s a day, for it rains eight months a year, and then a man does not earn a penny. Food and clothing are terribly dear, too.”’
On the 12th February last a man called at Signal Bros.’ stables at Marton, and hired a horse, saddle, and bridle for the day. On the following day the same person called at Flavell’s stables in Feilding, left the saddle and bridle, and hired a gig and harness for the horse, and nothing has been heard of the individual since. The horse was valued at £2O, the gig £2S. and the harness at £7 10s. The Wellington police have now recovered the horse, gig. and harness, which had. in the meantime, found its wv to the Empire City. A warrant has been issued for the apprehension of the offender.
