The foolishness of youngsters playing with dangerous goods was well illustrated at Feilding recently,. A boy who was told it was not safe to carry loose pea rifle cartridges in his pocket, wished to test the accuracy' of the statement. He selected a cartridge. and, placing it on a stone, proceeded to hit- it with another stolid, to see if it would explode.‘His curiosity was satisheU, for ‘the 'cartridge exploded, and sent the biillet through the front part of his straw hat, making a hole qs lqrge as a ‘ xixpequy piece. There lias been a proposal to pay Otago school teachers their salaries through the Post Office Department, and thereby avoid the cost of exchange on cheques necessitated by the present method of payment, and the Otago Education Board approved of the principle of payment through the Post Office. .
