MAYORAL ELECTION IN compliance will the expressed wish of a numbey of Burgesses, t again ofFer myself for election 1o the office of MAYOR. Briefly stated, my views are the following : WATER SUPPLY.—I am anxious to see this work completed. It promises to ho a splendid success, and I shall deem it an honor 1 1 be your Mayor when the work is completed. With this out of the way other pressing wants must be attended to. particularly that of DRAINAGE. I am strongly of opinion that this must follow the introduction of the Water Supply. Gisborne must keep up with the times, and the Drainage question must be faced. With regard to . the OUTER HARBOR SCHEME, I am emphatically in favor of this, and if the passage of an Enabling Bill in the coming session of Parliament will givo tho ratepayers an earlier opportunity of voting upon this scheme than otherwise, the Bill will have my hearty support. In asking the Burgesses for a renewal of their confidence in me, l do with the hope that my actions in the past have given satisfaction to you. I await the Election Day with every confidence. „ J. TOWNLEY. COMMITTEE.-—I shall be pleased to meet with my supporters on THURSDAY EVENING NEXT, at f .30, in the room over Dalrymple’s.

MAYORAL ELECTION. TO THE BURGESSES OF GISBORNE. TN again acceding to the request -“L to contest the Mayoralty, I do so with feelings of great respect to the presetn occupant of the position (Mr. Townley), realising, however, at the sarpe time, that our progress has been retarded in the past, and will continue to be retarded in the future, by his attitude, thus making it very hard and difficult for progressive works and changes to be made on sound and prudent lines. Shortly, I am strongly in favor of an Outer Harbor, and consider that no time §)ion]fl be lost in getting an Enabling Bill passed, and then, having Mr. Merchant's scheme placed before the people for their final approval or disapproval, so soon as it has been approved of, or modified, by the Consulting Engineer.. In the meantime, I consider that the expenditure upon the River works should be curtailed as much as possible, and that only absolutely necessary works should bo done,' in order to keep the river open and enable full use of jt to be made. 1 consider that, with water, some economical and prudent scheme of Sewage must follow, for the health and convenience of the public, A site should be selected and secured for Municipal buildings, and a start made by erecting offices suitable for our .present requirements, the offices now occupied being entirely inadequate, and without a fixed tenure. Better arrangements are urgently needed for Metalling our streets and footpath;*, Generally, my policy would be to see that the. Borough and Harbor Board get good value for their money, which, I regret to say, I do not consider they have always got in the past. It cannot be denied that Gisborne is far behind all other places of equal importance in tile colony of New Zealand in its improvements, and that it needs fresh and vigorous administration in order to bring it to a level even with places yf less importance. I am, Yours faithfully, W. DOUGLAS LYSNAR.

MAYORAL ELECTION. MR. W. D. LYSNAIt i! Candidate for the Mayoralty will- address the Burgesses of Gisborne at His Majesty’s Theatre, on MONDAY EVENING NEXT, at 8 o’clock, when he will deal with the most important Local Municipal Matters.
