THE “PROPHET” RUA.

In regard to the sensational reports received concerning tho “prophet Rua, a Times representative yesterday waited on Colonel Porter, who stated that the reports were wild exaggerations. The chief on whose land Rua is settled has made him welcome there and has provided bushfalling work for the young men in Rua’s party, and it is not likely that he will let them have sheep or cattle without deducting payment therefor/; in addition to which a Gisborne firm has a lien over the stock, and is not likely to allow it-to be sacrificed without some provision being made for payment. The chief, who is at present in Gisborne attending the Lancl Court, returns homo to-day, and Colonel Porter visits Rua’s camp on Monday to enquire into tho situation and report to Government.
