NOXIOUS WEEDS.
The Inspector of Noxious "Weeds (Air. Campbell Thomson) proceeded against six persons yesterday morning, for allowing noxious weeds to grow on their properties. Thomas Davies pleaded guilty, but stated that about half had been done.
Air. Nolan appeared for the prosecution. and stated that several notices had been served, but they were ignored and it was time something was done. Defendant was convicted and fined £2 and £1 los. E. P. Joyce (Air. Finn) was the next defendant. He pleaded not guilty.
Air. Thomson stated that there was a quantity of briars on the pro perty, they were full of fruit. They seemed several yoars old. Air. Finn contended that it wanot an offence to allow sweetbl'iars to grow, but to let it flower. His AVorship remarked that hi' enminonsenso told him that the plant (lowered before bearing fruit. AD-. Nolan : A question of botany Air. Finn said the fruit belonged lo another year.
Defendant was fined £2 and cost' £1 Bs.
Alex. Parsons, Cornelius Noonan and AW H. Tucker were each fined r similar amount, the costs being £1 los in the first two cases, and £! 8s in the latter.
Robert C. Afiller, being unaware of his liability to prosecuton foi weeds half way across the road frojr his property, was fined 10s and cost£l los.
