MATAWIIERO STOCK SALES
Tho usual stock sales wore hold at the Matawlioro yards yesterday, tho attendance being vory limited. Good hogget's wore in demand, but ior sheep tho bidding was dull. Messrs Common, Shelton and Co.’s and Dalgoty and Co.’s offerings brought tho following prices: GSG lambs 8s Gd, 241 small do. 5s Bd, 5 i'at lambs and 3 owes Bs, 43 small down lambs ss, 20 fat and forward do. 7s Id, 1G cull lambs 2s Id, small pen of soundmouthed owes Gs. There was a small yarding of cattle, comprising young heifers and steers, but these tailed to change owners, the bidding not reaching a satisfactory figitro. Four light draught horses were offered, a throeryear-old bringing £l3' 10s and a four-year-old £l4. Messrs. Williams and Kettle, New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., and Murray, Roberts and Co. offered 7000 sheep. Buyers were •scarce, and the sale dragged. Most of tho ewes sold under the hammoi , prices ranged for 2s 7d for culls to 8s 9d for serviceable sorts, and tlieie was little or no demand for other classes. Prices were: 505 two, four, six, and eight-tooth ewes 6s lid, Mackey and Hall; 213 two-tootli wethers 12s 9d, C. Gibson ; 40 fat and forward ewes 11s Id, S. Reid; 61 mixed two-tooths 9s Gd, Von Pein; 23 mixed lambs 5s 9d, T. J. Thomas; 292 do. ewes 3s, Gisborne Freezing Works and E. P. Sennens; 41 twotooth ewes 10s lOd, Von Pein; 44
good lambs 9s, Flood; 45 empty ewes 7s 2d, T. Gcdye; 71 fat ewes 10s, D. Gordon; 47 two and four-tooth wethers 13s 2d, F. Hall; 98 small twotooth wethers 8s Gd, C. Gibson; HO mixed lambs 6s lid, Mills; 311 mixed lambs 9s Bd, E. Hutchinson; 87 old ewes 3s-3d, C. Gibson; 5 owes 7s, A. Knox ; 85 full-mouth ewes 6s Gd, C. Gibson ; 339 ewes 4s'3d, C. Gibson; 23 old owes 2s 7d, Gisborne Freezing Works; 3G old owes 3s 3d, McCredio; 701 two-tooth wethers 13s lOd, Ruka Eh oka ; 410 good lambs 9s 9d, Hutchinson ; 340 sound-mouth ewes 8s od, Omerod; 5 fat sheep 13s, Newton ; 5 fat wethers 14s Gd, D, Gordon; 11 fat- lambs 10s 9d, E. T. Harries. A good many pens that were passed in were subsequently disposed of privately. The cattle yarded,numbered about 200, and there was more demand ior this class of stock, beef and wellgrown cattle selling well. Prices : 6 beef bullocks £7 7s 6d, F. Hall ; 7 store steers £2 ISs, H. M. Bayly; 2o lj-year-old steers £2 Bs, F. Hall ; 30 fat and forward bulloaks £5 ss, I* - Hall; 31 do. £5, F. Hall; 5 prime beef cows £5, F. Hall; 4 beef cows £5 ss, F. Hall; 6 do. £5, F. Hall ; 4 do. £4 17s Gd, F. Hall; 5 do. £o 2s 6d, F. Hall; 2 do. £4 7s Gd, Pilcher Bros.; 1 do. £4 15s, Newton; 1 do. £5 10s, Maynard. A number ot dairy cows were offered on behalf of Mrs. Fitzell; only five sold, the prices being: 1 (due July 10) £4, R. JWitters; 1 (due August 16) £4, ,DOman; 1 in full milk £4, D. Dinan ; 1 (due August 15) £4, D. Dinan; 1 in full milk £4 17s Gd, B. Sharp. Pigs ; Eleven for killing brought 20s, 4 smaller ones 14s, 5 others 15s, K. T. Harris. Horses: A number of horses were put up. One light draught mare (broken to chains) brought -18 10 , l bay mare (broken to chains) £2O, 1 unbroken mare £l7 10s, 1 buggy herse passed at £lB 10s.
(Pei- Press Association.) NAPIER, yesterday. Tho Colonial Consignment and Distributing Company cabled as follows 10-day: “North Island mutton has fallen another Jd per lb in value. To-day’s quotations, are: Canterbury mutton 4d, Napier, Wellington, and North Island 3gd; lamb, first quality jid, second 4Jd; beef, hindquarters 3jjd, fores 25.”
