EAST COAST NEWS.
PORT AWANUI. (From our own Correspondent.) Friday evening was quite a gala day or rather evening in Tupnroa, on account of their annual hall ill connection with dog trials. Many visitors went from here and some came all the way from Gisborne. Music and floor were first-class, and everything was going off splendidly, but unfortunately at supper a most unpleasant accident occurred. The supper room was erected off the woolshed, and as the guests were seating themselves, the flooring gave way at one end, precipitating several people, in a heap., and the jellies and various creams, ole., went also, completing spoiling and wetting several ladies’ dresses to say nothing of several severe bruises and sprains. Forunately no limbs were broken. We are having grand weather lately, and several parties are busy hush-felling, and fencing contracts are plentiful, and trade brisk.
The Waiapu Racing Club will come out of their late meeting with a credit balance of over £4O, hut as all accounts are not yet in, the exact amount is not obtainable.
