BOROUGH OBJECTIONS

The following objections to the Borough valuations were heard by Mr. Barton, S.M., at 11 a.m. yesterday.

E. H. Mann, on behalf of William Tattley, of Parnell, Auckland, gave notice of objections on the following grounds: (I) That his name be in sorted therein as owner of a pro perty described as 39.46. D. Ballance street, and assessed at the rateable value of £SG, whereas the rateable value of sucb property is less than stated ; (2) that his name is inserted as owner of a property described as 23. D.; Russell street, dwelling, and assessed at the rateable value of £4O. whereas it is less. Mr. Mann explained that, there were 63 acres in the property. The valuation was increased from £36 to £56, cquivaleir to 55$ per cent., which ho though excessive. As he had no evidence the objectijn was dismissed. In the second application Mr. Mann went into the witness-box, as he owned property near and could express an opinion, and stated that ho considered the value to be about £25 or £26.

Mr. R. D. B. Robinson, Borough valuer, stated that the property was. a corner section, and could be cut up and sold, and that it was worth £3OO per acre.

His Worship reduced the valuation by £5. Allan Black objected to the valuation placed on his property, 14 of 136 A, Herbert road, at £3O per annum,' as a protest against other alues in the borough. His Worship said that Mr. Black’s objection was not in order, as he had given no reason. He went on to say that in future, unless objectors made a reasonable compliance with the Act, which clearly stated the form the objection should take, lie would reject the applications. Mr. Black wished to give his reasons in Court, but this was ruled against, and the valuation was reduced by consent to £26.

There wore three other objectors on the list, but as they did not appear the applications were struck out.
