TINIROTO NOTES.

(From our own Correspondent.) The local sports took place in Tiniroto oil 22nd Marcli,. there being a good attendance of the general public. A programme of some twenty events was gone through, and keen interest was shown in many o' the races. The wood-chopping and higlijump appeared to attract most attention. The high-jump was won by Air .C. Aislahi, who cleared sft. lin. and could without doubt have gone another sor 6 inches with ease. Refreshments were provided by several ladies in the district. Air. P. Richardson acted as starter, and Mr. D. Howell as judge for the chopping, .horse-jumping- was not so good as was expected, the winner being Air. W.. Watson, who had two horses in the competition. The Te Reinga wing of the Hurumua Alounted Rifles under Lieutenant Small, who present at the request of the committee, but- through a short period of notice asking them to attend, the troop was not altogether, in form to give a military display. A dance was held in the school-room and a goodly number kept up tho dance until about 1 o’clock. Alessrs. Barker Bros., of Rua'kituri, are at present at the station. I understand they wore forced to forego the motor for a buggy and-pair. The Te Reinga wing of the Hurumua Alounted Rifles leaves Te Reinga on Easter Sunday for AVairoa, where the troop sports take place the following day. I understand- that. a few more recruits aro going down from Tiniroto to be enrolled. This is something new for the district, and I hope that most of' tlio young follows now in Tiniroto will bo sobn before long in the ranks of His Majesty’s forces, and that they."regard it as a duty, not merely a plen ire, to be a mounted trooper. ' Alany of the turnip crops around hero arc doing real well this season, and a good demand for hoggets will soon set in. Considerable dissatisfaction exists over tho police report in regard te the local hotel.
