EASTER HOLIDAYS. POST AND TELEGRAPH DEPARTAJ ENT'. AIARCII 29, AND APRIL 1, 1907. POSTAL BRANCH. Good Friday, 29th inst., will be observed as a close holiday. On Easter Monday, tile Ist April, the post office will bo open in all branches excepting Money Order and Savings Bank, from 9 a.in. to 10 a.m. Posting boxes will be cleared on evenings oi Thursday, 28th inst., and Saturday, the 30tii inst. Alails usually despatched on Friday will close at 7.36 on Thursday, the 2Sth Alarch. On Easter Alonday, the Ist April, the usual despatch of mails up to 8 a.m. will be made. Posting boxes ’and receiver cleared accordingly. On Thursday and Saturday evenings, the 23th and 30tli Lists., a delivery of town letters will be made between 7 and 8 p.m. at the post office wicket.

TELEGRAPH OFFICE. On Good Friday. Sunday hours will be observed, viz.: 9.30 to 10 a.m. and o to 3.30 p.m. On Easter Monday the office will open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to midnight. TELEPHONE EXCHANGE. Will observe special holiday hours on Good Friday, viz,: 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. only. On Easter Monday continuous attendance as usual irom s a.m. to 11 p.m. In order to provide cool storage for meat and other produce in Japan, the Victorian State agent (Mr. R. B. L.cvien) has induced merchants and others at Osaka to form a large cool storage company, which intends to build stores at Osaka, Nagoya,Kyoto. Tokyo, and other places. In a letter which tho Victorian Minister for Agriculture has received from Mr Levien, is enclosed an extract from the Japan Chronicle, in which, under the headings. “Cool storage and Japan; arrangements for constant supply of • Australian viands,” the objects of the company are explained. It is

stated that storage is to he provided for meat, fish, fruit, vegetables, etc., and that contracts have been practically arranged for supplies from Australia. At a meeting held in Osaka on January 21st-, Mr. W. A raid an•nounced that the company had been formed on the representations of Mr. Tiovien, who was thanked for the information lie had supplied upon the subject. The poorer classes of Japan, Mr. Araki said, were beginning to eat meat and butter, and, as the country could not supply sufficient of these commodities at a reasonable price, there was necessity to import supplies. The company would not interfere with those in the trade, but would seek to supply these -goods at a minimum price.
