Statements showing t.lio financial position of the Cook County Council were submitted at the meeting of the Council held yesterday. Following is the statement of assets and liabilities at March 21:—Assets—Cash in bank £482 3s sd, outstanding general rates £2021 14s Od, outstanding Maori rates (£1000) say £SOO, dog-tax and small revenues £SO, l’olaga tolls £24, grant moneys advanced £350, repayments by loan accounts £lB5, total £3012 17s lid; Liabilities—Payments March 2Gth £2683, balance of contracts £3BOO, compensation and fenc4^PTus V £2tff

The Statement of Accounts to March 22nd was as follows:—Collected—General rates £6367 17s 2d, special rates £634 12s 6d, charitable aid rates £5 13s lOd, native rates £361 11s 3d, interest on rates £6 5s 6(1, sales of timber and metal £92 5s 7d, Tolaga tolls £24, dogs £62 os, insurance £l, refund from Government Printer 18s, hawker’s license 10s, interest Carr Trust £2 15s, grants £1430 19s lOd, total £B9BO 13s lid; overdraft at February 13th, £B49S 10s 6d; credit balance, £4S2 3s sd; required March 22nd, £2683; overdraft March 23rd, £2200 16s 7d ; advances, £350, grants applied for, £215.
The Clerk said he expected to get in £I2OO of the outstanding rates within a month. On the motion of the Chairman it was decided that all outstanding rates be penalised to the extent of 10 per cent, if not paid within a fortnight.
