EXHIBITION CHARGE.
FIRE BRIGADES’ PROTEST. Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, last night. At a mooting of tho fire brigades’ demonstration committee to-night, strong objection was taken to tho proposal of tlio Exhibition authorities to mako competing firemon passing through the gates after 7.45 o’clock each evening pay the ordinary admission charge, and a deputation was appointed to wait upon tho general manager of tho Exhibition. It was resolved that- if an amicable settlement could not bo arrived at the demonstration which is to start next week would be held on Sydenham Park instead of on tho Exhibition sports ground, and that a strongly worded telegram- should be sont to tho acting-Premier on the matter. DEATH OF ARCHDEACON WILLIAMS. A VERY OLDCOLONIST. / Press Association. NAPIER, last night. Tho Venerable Archdeacon Samuel Williams died at his residence at Pukeliou at 9 o’clock this evening, after an illness resulting from a chill caught a week or two ago. The deceased arrived at the Bay of Islands 85 years ago, and has been connected with the work of To Auto College and of the Church of England at Hawke’s Bay since 1853. The funeral takes place on Saturday at Te Ante.
