WESLEYAN CONCERT

A large attendance assembled co hear a concert at the Wesleyan Schoolroom last night, tlio proceedings being utilised for tho choir music. The first item was a pianoforte duet by the Aliases Seymour and Johnston, who played with expression. This was followed by a part song by the choir entitled “Let the Hills Resound,” and was sung with effect. Air Kinder submitted the old favorite “Four Jolly Smiths” A duet “O’er the Hills” was given by Airs. C. East and Aliss Wilkinson. “Two Songs” was Aliss Aitkin’s contribution, which was loudly applauded. Air. Wilkinson rendered “Nan cy Lee” to the evident appreciation of the audience. The duet “Good Night Beloved” by Airs. East, Aliss Brokenshire, and Alessrs. East and Goldsmith, evoked considerable applause. Aliss Langford gave an ox cellent pianoforte rendering of “Killarney.” Perhaps the most popular item of the evening was a humorous recitation by Aliss Sussex, entitled ‘.‘The Three Lovers.” ■ Air. J. East gave a spirited rendering of “The Bandit’s Song.” The duet “Flow on Thou Shining River,” by Aliss Ait-

ken and Foster was well received. Miss Hawkins sang “The Land Across the Sea,” and Miss Sussex again gave an acceptable recitation. Tlie choir sang an anthem, and the evening’s entertainment was brought to a conclusion by. the singing of the National Anthem. A word of praise is due to Rev. Griffin and Mr. C. J. East (accompanist). ...... PERSONAL. Mr. W. A. Barton, S.M., returned on Wednesday evening, rather earlier than expected, from his quarterly visit to the coast. Owing to his visit to England, Mr. A. B. Carmichael has resigned his seat for the Patutahi riding of the Cook County Council. The Mayor (Mr. John Townlcy) is expected to'arrive back from his visit to the Christchurch Exhibition tomorrow morning. The Successful Milker. A short trial of a few months at the end of a season is no guido as to the reliability of any milking machine. Two full seasons is the shortest period in which to determine if the machines have any injurious effect on the cows or their yield. Many previous machines appeared to milk satisfactorily for the first season, but, until the “LAWRENCE-KENNEDY GILLIES” was proved every machine resulted in disaster during the second, but most frequently during
