POVERTY BAY CADETS
THE VlfexT TO CHRISTCHURCH. At tho Gisborne School yesterday afternoon the town cadets who are to go to the Exhibition- were paraded and inspected by Major Kinder, supported by Adjutant Cowan. Chaplain Rev. Geo. Grant and Captain Beero wore also in attendance. The parade state was as follows : —No- 1 company (Captain Wauchop and Licuts. Luttrell and Beero), 70; No. 2 company (Capt. Morice), 51; No. 3 company (Capt. Olsen), 49. After tlie inspection the boys were marched into Gladstone road, where a number of battalion movements were gone through on the inarch in excellent style. They marched to the top of Gladstone road, then turned into Palmerston road, and so back to tjie school. During the afternoon two tons of baggage was shifted to tho wharf under the supervision of Quartermaster Leslie. Daring yesterday evening and this morning the town hoys were joined by the following companies from the country: To Arai- (8), Patutahi (26), aiid Waerenga-a-liika (18), under Capt. Ellis and Lieut. Woodward; Makauri (19) and Mangapapa (13), under Captain Colo; and Ormond (14) and Matawliero (12), under Captain McLeod. Tho battalion is to parade at 5.35 o’clock this morning aiid leave for tho South by ~ the To Auaii at 6 o’clock. Tlie school will close while tlio cadets aro away (probably at tho end of this week), thus enabling the headmaster, ..n F- J. Rowley, to accompany them.
