LIBRARY COMMITTEE
A meeting of the Library Committee was held in the Library yesterday afternoon, the principal business being the granting of a room for the newly-formed chess club. Present: Messrs L. T. Symes (in the chair), W. J. Hawley (secretary), F. T. Morgan, R. U. Burke, and G. Matthewson. Mr J. A. Connell was present for the chess club. The chairman suggested that the room be given to the club until it was required for extension of the library, and that the club p)rocure a gasmeter, furnishings, etc. They did not want to make anything out of the club. The room was to be used by the library members. Mr. Connell thanked the chairman for his kind suggestion, and cordially accepted it on behalf of the club. He thanked them for their liberality, and liop>ed that the benefit would be mutual, and wished both the library and the chess club success. He expected that a telegrap)li match would be held shortly with a club at Auckland or Napner. Some routine business was gone through, and accounts amounting to £5 12s 2d were passed for payment.
