POLICE MAGISTRATE’S NEGLECT

Failing to send his children to school, Mr Greene, a Victorian Police Magistrate, was before tho Inglewood Court on January 27th, charged with failing to send his children to school. Mr Greene’s defence was that lie was the chief teacher of his bo.ys. In cross-examination, Mr O’Halloran, counsel for the Education Department, said, add five-eights and two-sixteenths.

Say yes or hq, Mr Greene: Well, if you put it that way, I’ll say I can’t do it. lu fining Mr Greene ss, in default 24 hours’ imprisonment, and ordering him to pay £8 7s costs, Mr Morrow said tho Bench could not compliment him on the way he gave his evidence.

On a fourth charge a similar fine was imposed, but without costs.
