CJIAS. J. KNOPP’S ESTATE. 'J'lio statement of insolvency filed by Charles James ICnopp, restaurant keeper, shows that the liabilities total £BS 8s and the assets £0 15s, leaving a deficiency of £7B Os Bd. The unsecured creditors are owed. i£77 Bs, and a secured creditor £2lO, the estimated value of the securities being £202. The statement of real estate shows that bankrupt lias a leasehold interest with about two years to run in the Trocadero restaurant, wicli was included in the security to tho secured creditor.
The unsecured creditors are: J. A. Connell 10s, Jones and Gaudin £1 8s (id, Gas Company £23 2s, A. Hailey £3 7s 4d, W. Hell £G 5s Gd, O’Sullivan 18s lOd, G. Willan 7s, F. Hall 11s, R. J. Robb £2 IBs Gd, J. Erskino £3 7s Bd, E. T. Harries £l9 19s, Wong King £6 7s lOd, Gisborne Shcepfarmcrs’ Company 19s, Herald £1 8s Gd. In tho course of his written statement debtor says: “I started business as a restaurant-keeper in May last year. 1 had at that time £35 in cash. Mr Friar advanced £2OO to enable me to start, taking security over my household furniture, also tho Trocadero furniture and effects, and tho leasehold interest in the Trocadero. When I took over the business I shortly found out that it had suffered in the eyes of the public. Competition was very keen, and I. was forced to put on too expensive a menu to make it pay. About September last I found I was going to the bad, but struggled on, expecting with tho Christmas trade to regain lost ground. Tho Christinas trade was dull, and during race week it was also slack. Shortly after Christmas one of my creditors pressed me. I consulted a number of my creditors, with the result that they advised me to file.”
