VALEDICTORY CONCERT
FAREWELL TO MR. A. J. MASSEY. His Majesty’s Theatre was comfortably filled last evening when a farewell concert to Mr. A. J. Massey was held. The Club Orchestra provided two overtures, Miss Ina Booth played a violin solo, Mr Massey played a violin solo (Mendelssohn’s ‘‘An Revoir”), and Mr J. Adair contributed a vjolincello solo (“Simple Avan.”) Mrs. Collins contributed largely to the programme, singing an “Ave Maria,” (responding to an encore with Tosti’s “Goodbye”), and two other melodies, all well received. Mr. Massey played violin obligatos to two of her songs, as he did also for Mr. W. J. Barlow, who sang “Alice, where art thou?” and had to respond to an encore. Miss Bonar Millar was also well received and sang “Loch Lomond” (in response to an encore for another well-rendered ditty) to the satisfaction of the audience. “A Giant am 1” and “Out on the Deep” were well suited to Mr. F. J. Teat’s voice, and he sang the songs in excellent spirit. For his singing of “My Sweetheart as a Boy” Mr. T. Dalrymple was loudly applauded. Mr. M. Lewis, a visitor from Auckland, was called upon for a lot of items, giving three comic songs, a coster ballad, and a whistling solo. To concludo the first i>art of the programme a team of girls from the District High School gave an Indian Club-swinging display,, which had to be repeated. The accompaniments throughout the evening were well played. The City Baud rendered a programme of music in tlio street before the concert commenced.
