(From our own Correspondent.) The Haupiri called on Thursday, I and discharged 17 tons of cargo, and proceeded on to Auckland. X hear we are to have Waitautu creek gravelled if it is possible to Ke t men to take the job. Laborers are very scarce; complaints everywhere no men to be got. They are getting scarcer than servant girls. Good nominations are expected j next Saturday for the Waiapu races, to be run on 2oth March. Wc had lately a visit from the Inspector of Police, and upon being asked what sort of trip lie had, he described very ruefully how he nearly got drowned and the buggy floated off the ground. He thought it getting serious. However, he landed at A wail u i safe; but he says never again-first and last visit-says the worst roads he has ever travelled I see several coast views in the Auckland Weekly News, so we are getting civilised
