THE EXHIBITION
(By Telegraph Special Servlce.l A free fireworks display by representatives of Pain, and Sons, Ltd., has been the main" feature of the Exhibition programme to-day. A crowd of several thousands gathered to watch the display, which was ot a highly brilliant and novel character. The set pieces were of most ingenious designs, and the showers of myriad colored fiery stars and other features of aerial exhibition were beautiful beyond description. A gigantic fiory portrait of Sir Jno. Hall, Mayor of Christchurch, proved a very faithful likeness. It was greeted with loud applause. Other fireworks displays will be givon every Wednesday The orchestra is still attracting a biff attendance, and both concerts given to-day were largely patronised. Exhibitors who have selling rights have been finding business very good since the New Year, especially dur,ing the last two, weeks. Some oi them admit that it is much hotter than they expected, and if it remains as good they will be well satisfied. Two' hundred Hawke s Bay Maoris have announced themselves willing and ready to come at- once to the Exhibition pa. The prospect of invasion in these numbers caused some anxiety among the pa authorities, and a telegram was at once despatched bidding the enthusiastic natives to take no action till Mr McGregor, who has been in charge of the Maori contingents, can choose a body of fifty from tjielr number. .
