HOW THE NATIVE LAND IS TO BE TREATED. Press Association. WHANGAREI, last night. In the course of a speech on the Government land proposals last night Mr McNab said that, the question of the freehold was not the sole problem - confronting the Government. The great difficulty was in procuring any land at all. All the land taken from largo freehold estates which were thrown upon the market would still retain-the freehold, and those who got it would still have freehold rights. If any person held freehold land to the value of two hundred thousand pounds lie would have to part with a large ‘ proportion, and there would be twenty persons holding freehold property wh.ere only one bad held it before. Later on, referring to native lands the Minister stated that all such lands declared by the Commissioners to be surjilus would bo dealt with by legislation which would place tlieiii for disposal in the open market' without any need of effecting tlieir purchase through the Crown. They would he disposed of under the freehold system on terms favorable to buyers,
