WAERENGA-A-HIKA
(From Our Own Correspondent.) A very enjoyable social was held in the School on Friday evening last, got pp by Druids residing in and around Waerpnga-a-hika, who invited their town brethren and friends. Owing, no doubt, to races arid counter attractions, very few of the town Druids put in an appearance, but those who did attend enjoyed themselves splendidly. Great praise is due to those who assisted in the management of the social, which I hope will become an annual affair. Our sports, which have been so successfully carried out for the past three years, and which have been tho means of contributing a good sum annually to our Hospital, had unfortunately to be abandoned last Boxing Day owing to the flood of July last spoiling the ground by depositing so much silt thereon. I understand it is the intention of those interested to carry the sports on as in past years, so soon as tho ground becomes fit, which I hope will be before next Boxing Day. ... Harvesting is practically over around here, and I believe farmers have been fortunate. The weather keeping fine has enabled crops to be gathered without loss. Grass seed has not yielded heavily.- Potato crops seem ripening well. Tho blight made its appearance, but in a very mild degree, and does not seem to spread. There 'are a few very good crops around here, particularly Mr: C. O’Connell’s, which looks first,-class, and should yield handsomely.
