Auckland mail pier Talune extended to 9 a.m. to-day. The Hon. J. Carroll arrives in Gisborne this morning by tlio Talune. Inspector Macdonnell is a passenger by tlio Talune, arriving this morning. The “Squaw Mail” Company are passengers from' Napier by the Talune to-day. Tho Matawhero Post and Telephone Office will remain open this Wednesday afternoon (stock sale day). Among the patients in the Hospital is William Butler, the _ unfortunate man who sustained a serious fracture on the steamer Kai'koura on December sth. Mr. Partington, an old resident, who was in a critical state of health for some time, is now steadily recovering, and is able to take occasional drives. Alails despatched from Melbourne via, Brindisi oil the 9th January, and from Sydnoy via Vancouver on tho 25th December, arrived in London on the Bth February.

Lovers of art would do well to pay a visit to the auction mart in Lowe street, where Dr. Douglas Porrett has on view a very fine collection of oils, pastels, and watercolors. These will be offered for sale by auction on Saturday next, and will be sold without reserve. Inspection is especially invited. Bright end Harding being at the Borough Council meeting wero unable to be present at the meeting of the Hospital Trustees until tho evening had well advanced. At the meeting of the Hospital Trustees last night, Air .F. J. Lysnar offered to forfeit £SO to the Hospital if it could be proved that the return from Palmerston North as to tho Hospital there was shown to be accurate. He had, he said, just recently visited that town and knew the information was not correct. The | Chairman said it might not be now, but he had no reason to doubt that the information was accurate at the time it was supplied.
