Tho Gisborne Racing Club had thoir usual good fortune in regard to tho weather, not that it was of tho kind that lias nearly always favored tho club, hilt still not of the kind to mar the gathering. Heavy rain fell in the morning, hut it cleared towards noon, and though tho sky remained overcast no further rain was experienced . Tho racing throughout was good, and tho attendance’was large. The improvements that had been made about tho ground were appreciated, and everything wont off well. Mr. M. G. Nasmith, the secretary, was ably assisted by the other officers of the club, and tho arrangements were entirely satisfactory. Tho Gisborne Private Band played a number of selections on tho lawn. The investments on the toto were £5764. Tho following are tho rosults:

McLaughlin’s Contender, 4yrs, 8.12 (King) ... .... 2 55. Mr. C. Morse’s Giadsmuir, syrs, 7.6, (Buchanan) 3 Also ran: 105 Gaiety 8.8 (T. O’Brien), 112 Goldfield 7.10 (W. Kirk). Black Reynard, Marangai, Arai-t-e-Uru, and Creeping Jane were scratched. From a false start, Gatenby, potting beyond the control of his rider, bolted 'round the course. Gatenby and Giadsmuir got away together, leaving the others a couple of lengths behind. Gatenby forged ahead, leaving Giadsmuir second, iuirtlior on they bunched up, Gatenby still leading. Gatenby led into the straight, Contender lying second, the result being an easy win tor Gatenby by a couple of lengths. Time, 1.16 1-5. Dividends, £4 lis. On tote £7lB.

After some delay at tlie start Hinetitamata went to the front, followed by Ruanui, Amusement being third close behind. After an exciting race Hinetitamnta won by n head. Time, Slisec. Hepburn’s Cinque, by Saracen Duadine, 9.0 (Arnott) 1 171. Air J. Jones’ Morpetli, 9.9 (O’Connell) 2 65. Air P. Smith’s Inspan, 10.10 (Sweeney) 3 Tho only starters. Cinque led off from tho jump, and maintained his position throughout. Morpetli challenged bravely, but Cinque was too far ahead. Won by several lengths. Time, 2.57 4-5. Dividend, £3 11s. After several false starts all got away in a hunch, Trent leading and Te Raimi close up. After a great race Te Raimi won by a head. Time, 1.17. Dividends, £2 3s and £2 14s. On tote £996. The same places were maintained until Freeland challenged for first place, and then won easily. Time, 2.12. Dividends, £4 4s and 16s. On tote £576. FIRST COUNTY STAKES, of 60 sovs; second liorso to receive 10 sovs from stake. Seven furlongs. 35. Air. G. C. Ormond’s Hinetitamata,, 6.12 (Malone) 1 261. Mr. G. H. Foster’s Marangai, 8.13 (Broadfield) 2 200. Mr. G. Robson’s Gatenby, 6.13 (Jones) ... 3 Also started: 74 Faro, 32 Sarilla, 85 Linkless, 31 Hinetapauriki, and 81 Bruiser. Scratched: Giadsmuir, To Arai, Spun Yarn, and Glenafric. Hinetitamata got away from Gatonby, and led all the way, Doming into the straight Marangai challenged him, but without success, and lie won by a length. Time, 1.31. Diviends, £ls 8s and 13s.

From a good start the field soon scattered. Te Uku and Lord Rosebery were close together. After an exciting finish Te Uuku won by a nose. Time, 1.16 1-5. Dividends, £3 13s and £1 11s. On tote £823.
