I hear from a very old friend of Lord Kitchener (says the London correspondent' of the. Birmingham Post) that it is believed that when liis present term of command in India expires it will be extended for at least another two years, and that he has privately expressed his willingness to remain in the Dependency as long as ho is required. The reason for this proposed extension is, of course, that it is now thought that by the time Lord Kitchener’s appointment expires, in November next, his scheme for the reorganisation of the army and the defence of the Indian frontier will not have advanced far enough to enable liis successor to take the work over. Mr. W.- 11. Capper, for threo years postmaster at the Thames, has been promoted to a similar position at Invercargill.
