The Tairawhiti District Maori Land Court will bo held'at Wairoa on February 14th, to deal with six blocks of land, at Ohuia, Wlmrepu, Ilerohoretau, To Kiwi, Taumata-o-tc-o, and- Poutaka. Constable Davy is now in charge of tho Gisborne gaol, Gaoler Chisholm having been transferred to Hastings, thus giving an additional man to that town, which has been agitating for more police. Constable O’Hara left for Napier last night in charge of two prisoners. A third prisoner who was to liavo been taken to Napier—a woman —is too ill to enable the journey to be taken in safety, and will probably be sent to tho Hospital. Mr Rich, who has been examining oil properties over which options have been obtained on behalf of an English syndicate, left for Aucklan 1 on Saturday. Messrs. J. M. Gouldsmitli and W. Gaudin returned to Gisborne on Saturday, having made the journey from Wellington to Napier in the handsome motor car purchased by Mr. Gouldsmitli. The latter was warmly congratulated on all sides concerning the victories of the Gisborne-bred sprinter Rink ’UII. Nuliaka is surely getting ambitious. Tho Guardian states: —“Mr J. S. Cooper, secretary of the Nuliaka A. and P. Society, intends to visit the Royal Agricultural Society’s Show, Sydney, which opens on March 26th, and lasts for seven days. He intendsto study the method of _ classing',’ ticketing, judging, and the issuing of piogrammes, etc.” At the Police Court on Saturday morning "William Rowell was charged with being found drunk in a public place, to wit Read’s Quay, on Ist February. Accused, failing to appear, was fined 16s and 2s costs, and 2s cab hire, or 48 hours’ imprisonment. Albert Peter Agnow, charged with a similar offence, failed to appear, and was fined the same amount.

The Wairoa Guardian gives the following report of a marriage ill which th ebridegroom was formerly a popular Gisborne resident: —Tho marriage of Miss Lulu Poyzer, third daughter of Mr. A. Poyzer ,to Mr. L. Williams, of Huramua, nephew of the lion. J. Carroll, was quietly celebrated at Wairoa last Tuesday morning, the Rev. Father Leprctro officiating. The bride looked charming in a pretty white muslin gown, long cream lustre coat, and leghorn lnit trimmed with white ostrich, feathers and tulle. Miss Ida Carroll acted as bridesmaid. Immediately alter tho ceremony the bride and bridegroom left for Christchurch Exhibition, overland, via Napier.;

Mr. AA’. J. Hunter, solicitor, is at prosent on a visit to Gisborne. Ha has taken up n legal practice in Levin, anil has successfully appeared in several cases there. Messrs. T. Ritchie and J. Colobourno, former Gisborne residents, returned to Hustings by the steam >r last evening. Mr. E. P. Joyce was also a piissongor South, and goes down to view the Exhibition.
