The sum of £22,423 was put through the machines for the day (including*£224l on the. double, Handicap and Motropoltan, which paid £7 4s), making £64,580 for the meeting. The results were:— Mungaroa Hack Hurdles. —Lavinia I 'Wind 2, Outer 3. Also rail: Haiva. Won easily by two lengths. Time: 2.47 8-5. Div.: £2 17s.
January Handicap Aeolus 1, Fontenoy 2, Probable 3. Also ran: IV irral, Blytliemnid, Grand Slam, Arc Light, Do Witte, Dulcinea. This was a splendid race. Wirral and De Witte led to the turn, where Eontonoy took charge, but was beaten on the last few strides by half a length, there being the same distance between second and third. Time: 1.41. Divs.: £4 16s and I4s.
Poneke Hack Handicap. —Silver Shell 1, Golden Cairn 2, Kaiuku 3. Also ran: Chatterer,. Kuku, Merriwai, Sandir, Flint Gun. Silver Shell won fairly easy at the finish by a length and a quarter. Time: 1.29. Divs. : £8 7s and 17s. W.R.C. Handicap Achilles 1, Apa 2, Eden 3. Also ran: Submarine, Zimmerman, St. Joe, Douche, Mystification, Clancliattan, and Rifle maid. From a good start Achilles ,j uni [led away in the lead, followed by Submarine and Zimmerman. Achilles came into the straight full of runnine and won rather easily by two lengths. Time: 2.7 2-5. Divs.: £2 and £1 4s.
Metropolitan Handicap Pink ’un 1. Replete 2, King Billy 3. Also ran: Munjeet, Signalman, Ballarat, Marguerite, Delamere, and Medallist. Reolete and King Billy led to the straight, where Pink ’un came through and won easily by two lengths. Time: 1.14 1-5. Divs.: £2 8s and £2 2s. Fitzherbert Handicap. —Prism 1. Swallow 2, Lamsdorff 3. Also ran : Finery, Happy Maid, ' English Rose. Signor, Theresa. This was a beautiful race,' and was won oil tlio post by a short half head. Time 1.3 4-5 Divs. : £5 Is and £lO 16s. Wellington Stakes. —Guid Wife 1 Elevation 2, Downfall 3. Also ran: Glenculloch (bracketed with Guid wife), Idealist, Pearl Reef, and Gold Crest. Guid Wife led all the way. and won comfortably by three-quar-ters of a length, Downfall being r good third. Time: 1.1 3-5. Divs.: £1 16s and £1 Is. Pencarrow Hack Handicap.—Full Rate 1, Chicane 2, William 3. Also ran: Tupono, Erl King, Saga, Moata. and Hillsong. Full Rato took charge in the straight l , and after a set to with Chicane won by half a length. Time: 1.15. Divs.: £2 9s and £2 17s. AUCKLAND, Saturday. The Takapuna Jockey Club opened the Summer meeting to-day in excellent weather. There was a good attendance, and the Slim of £9854 10s was put through the totalisator. against £7735 on the corresponding day of last year. Takapuna Cup, 1* mile.—Scotty 1. I’aritutu 2, AVaipuua 3. Scratched: Geordie, Bully, and Agrapus. Scotty went, to the front when entering the straight, and* won a good race by two lengths.
