Aii accident, which fortunately resulted in no furious consequences, occurred at the Featherston railway station on Monday morning, says the Carterton News. Mr \V. ft. liidwiil. was shipping liis racehorse, Clevation, to Wellington, and, assisted by two or three other men, had barely succeeded in getting the horse into the box, which was at the end of a long line of sheep trucks, when the engine of the train by which the horse was to go came along and hitched cm to the' trucks without the sligliest warning, and moved away. Mr Bidwill immediately tried to throw the door of the box up to keep the horse inside, and the porter endeavored unsuccessfully to stop the train by calling the driver. This being useless, he dropped the brakes of the box and thus attracted the engine-driver’s attention, who, seeing that something was wrong, stopped the train. Another few yards, and it would have been necessary for Mr Bidwill to drop the door of the box, owing to the proximity of a second line of trucks, wllicl) would have crushed him and left the horse to its fate. As it was, the engine stopped in time, and tho dopr was closed, the only damage done occurring to the porter, who had his hoot torn from liis foot. Sykes’s Drench— Always Reliable.
