SHOT.AT THE PIANO. JEALOUS FRENCH SURGEON KILLS AN OFFICER'S WIFE. Mine. Chide, wife of an officer in file commissariat, was shot dead on Sth at Blida, Algeria, by I)r. Marcel Thivot, assistant-surgeon of the First African Chasseurs, who afterwards shot himself through the head. Thivot, who recently returned to Blida after an ' absence of several months, went to pay a call on Mme. Chide, who was a fine musician. He asked her to play a Beethoven sonata, and it was while she was seated at the piano that he shot her. Alarmed by the noise, a maidservant rushed into the room. Mme. Chide was already dead, and Thivot was bleeding from the temple. The doctor admitted that he had killed Mme. Chide in a fit of jealously. He is not expected to recover. the peril of our time.
