CHRISTCHURCH, yesterday. The Besses o’ the Barn Band arrived at Lyttelton at 8.80 this morning. The Marine Band, of Lyttelton, played them from the steamer to the station. On arrival at Christchurch they were played by tho Garrison Band to the Criterion hotel, where they are quartered. The were-formally welcomed by Mr Payling aeting-Mayor, also by the musical societies, boards, etc., at the Exhibition at 2.80, whore an orchestral concert was given in their honor. The Besses o’ the Barn will give their first performance in the Exhibition grounds to-niglit. NEW PLYMOUTH, yesterday. The Primitive Methodist conference opened this morning. Tho Rev. C. E. Ward was elected president, Rev. G. Hutley vice-president, and the Rev. B. Dudley secretary.

DUNEDIN, yesterday. Five candidates have been nominated for three Drainago Board vacancies. A public mooting at Roxburgh protested against tho aboliton of tbo Tuapeka electorate, and appointed Messrs Bennetts and Craig to join the Lawrence delegation in interviewing the Representation Commission at Christchurch next week.
