PEDIGREE STOCK.

A DC(vLAiS'D, last night. A consignment of speeially-select-ed pedigree sheep purchased-in England under tlio direction of the High Commissioner' for tho New Zealand Department of Agriculture arrived by the AVhakatane. Tho animals, which number 25, and which arrived in excellent condition, consist of the following, tho amounts being the prices paid in each case:—-One Bor-der-Loicester two-tooth ram, bred by J. Dunlop, £52; lire Border-Leicester two-tooth ewes in lamb, bred by Messrs. Hume, Bardwell, and Smith (price not stated); one English Leicester two-tooth ram, bred by G. Harrison, £47 4s; five English Leicester two-tooth ewes in lamb, bred by G .Harrison, £ls 15s each; one Hyland two-tooth ram, bred by AY. Burnaby, £42; ten ltyland two-tooth owes iii lamb, bred by AV. Barnaby, £lO 10s each; one Southdown twotooth ram, bred by Sir 11. Cooper, £3O 15s; live Southdown two-tooth ewes in lamb, bred by Sir R. Cooper, £ri) 10s each. The sheep, which will ultimately be distributed amrangst tho Department’s experimental farms, will bo taken to Motuilii to-day for the necessary period of quarantine.

An important shipment of pedigree stock left England by the steamer Rimutaka on November 29, having been purchased by Mr. James EDavenport, of Christchurch, The Shropshires comprise the following:—Shearling ram bred, by Sir Richard Cooper; this ram won numerous prizes as a lamb and again as a shearling—lirst prize -oath and West, second Shropshire and West Midland (to another Cooper ram), and first at the Royal -now, Derby, in 1900. Shearling ram bred by Dr. Wall. Shearling ram, bred by Mrs. Inge (prize winner). Shearling ram bred by tho late Mr. Philo Mills. Five grand shearling owes bred by the late Mr. Philo Mills.

One Southdown ram bred by His Majesty the King; a winner at tho lloyal feliow, Derby. One Southdown ram bred by Air. "Edwin Ellis, Sum-

morsbury Hall; considered by competent judge to be tho best ram offered at the sale.

Three shearling Lincoln rams from Mr. A. A. Haley’s flock; two of theao rams are by the celebrated ram Noiv ton Riley, "bred by Messrs. Wright, out of ewes purchased- from Mr. Honrv Dudding; Nocton Riley was the sire of tho Royal Derby winner, which sold for 140 gs at Mr. Dudding's sale. Dour shearing Leicester rams bred by Mr. George Harrison, of Gainford Hall, all winners at the Royal Yorkshire shows. Three shearling Leicester rams bred by Mr, E. F. Jordan, of Eastburn. Seven shearling Leicester ewes .bred by Mr. E. F. Jordan: These sheep are all by noted sires, and tho ewes arc in

lamb to Mr. Jordan’s best rams. Three shearling- Border-Leicester rams bred by Mr, D. Hume, of BarrelweU, Five shearling Border-Lei-cester ewes bred b.v Messrs. D. nume, W. C. Moyes and George Poplc. All these sheep are by noted sires, and in lamb to stnd ram bred by Mr. D.

Hume. Three shearling Ryeland rams. Thirty shearling Ryeland owes (in lamb), bred by Mr. T. Barnoby. The leading Ryeland Hook; the sheep are a splendid even lot with beautiful fleeces, and include the first prize ram at the Royal Derby nad Hereford and Worcestershire, Three shearling Romney rams from tho noted old ilock of Messrs. L. and G. Finn. Fivo shearling ewes (in lamb) from the prize-winning flock of Mr. Charles File, The cattle comprise the following: Shorthorn bull Fairfield Duke, 12 months old, winner of five first Bean Shorthorn bull Charming;

Count, 18 months. This bull is out of the eoiv that hied Charming Victor 11,, the second two-year-old hull at the Royal Derby, IflOG, ujul sold for 1500 gs. Charming Countess, their dam, is a fine roan cow and a great milker. Shorthorn hull Carpet l’riuce, 18 moil ths. Iloan Shorthorn heifer, 2 years old. These bull’s were all purchased from the celebrated Shorthorn breeder Mr. George Harrison, whose success is so well known in the Shorthorn world. . „ Black Polled hull Justice of Hunslev. 2 years old, bred by Sir George Cooper, Hurslev Park, ‘Winchester; winner at the Royal Derby. Brighton and Tunbridge Wells shows. The shipment also includes the ponv stallion Dinartli Caesar. 2 years old.' bred by Mr. John Jones, Dinarth Hall, Colwvn Bay. The sire f this pony is the celebrated Julius Caesar 11. : dam a pure Welsh marc. The names of the breeders of all these animals are sufficient guarantee of the quality and value of the importation. Mr. Davenport spent six months in Kiigland making his selection with sound judgment, and the stock cannot fail to do him justice and greatly benefit the colony,
