EXCITING ADVENTURE.

In the middle of October Thomas Anderson, an American, was peuee--I'ully sleeping in a house-boat anchored nii Long Key, on the const of* Florida, when, to bis great surprise, and much against liis will, lie embarked upon a sories ot adventures and a voyage which finally landed him at Liverpool oil a recent Saturday. Employed by tlie Florida East Coast Railway Company as a laborer in tho construction of the Long Key Viaduct, lie, together with about 140 men, was accommodated for sleeping purposes in the house-boat. A gale sprang up which caused the vessel to drag her anchor and drift out to sea. The storm increased to a cyclone, which quickly capsized and wrecked the little craft, tliro.v ng all

8 the occupants into the water. To save their, lives they bail I, - get. whatever wreckage was at hand . and Anderson managed to get hold { of a sixteen foot plank. For liear'y i fourteen hours lie was tossed ab mt in tlie raging sea, when he saw a i light gleaming through tlie pitch i darkness, and it turned out to .be , from the Harrison liner Barrister. Tlio vessel came right on towards ■ him, and actually ran into the plank to which he. was clinging, hurling'it ■ several yards away. The man, however, managed to hail the steamer, and was taken on hoard. He was then fullv ten miles from Long Key. Tlie fate of the other men is unknown to him, hut he said ho saw some clinging to portion s of tho wrecked boat until it became dark, and he was hopeful flint some at any rate, had been picked up. DOESN’T MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE. Call a girl a chick and she smiles; call a .woman a lien and she howls. Call a young woman a witch and she is pleased; call an old woman a witch and she is indignant. Call a girl a kitten, and she ratlior likes it; call a woman a cat, and she hates you. Women are queer. If you call a man a gay dog it will flatter him; call him a pup, a hound oi a cur, and he will try to* alter the mail of your face. He doesn’t mind being calod a bull or a bear, yet lie w ill object to being mentioned as a calf or a cub. Alen arc queer.
