He accused Me Balfour of being chiefly responsible for the failure of (be settlement. He ridiculed the House of Lords’ mock heroics respecting the House of Commons’ unconstitutional procedure. He deolared that it was impossible to yield to tho House of Lordß without perpetuating and extending the very system tho Bill was designed to remove. The Government’s aim was to secure a natonal,not denominational system of education, as distinguished from sectarian Christianity. He warned the House of Lords the resources of thß constitution had not been exhausted. A way must and would be found to give c-ffjoi to the people’s will. (Tremendous ehoeis.) Mr Birrell denounced Mr Balfour as a wrecker of the Bill. He deolared that the oountry would never tolerate denomina tional education for long.
