PRESS ASSOCIATION Hawera, yesterday. William Thompson, the victim of the railway crossing aoeiaent, on Monday evening, near Normanby, died this morning. He never regained consciousness alter admission to tho Hospital. Carterton, yesterday.
Kingi Ngatuere, a well-known chief, died yesterday from in juries sustained by a fall*from a gig on Saturday night. He was the eon of a noted chief, Ngatuere Tawhiri Matra, of the Ngatimoe tribe, and was twice married. He leaves a widow, five daughters, end two eons. It is anticipated the taugi will rival any thing of the kind yet held ia the oolony, Nblsod, yesterday.
The dath is recorded of Mrs Elizabeth Nixon, mother of the late Henry Edwards, eged 102, a very old colonist, widely related.
At Kohatu, Motupiko, on Tassday afternoon, three girls, named Blanche Price, Susan Robsov, and Dorothy Price, were bathing in the river. Susan, aged 14, went >“ first and sank almost immediately. Her companions ran for aßsistaoce, but-the body was not recovered for 20 miQutes, and then life was extinct,, al'though efforts to restore animation were made for two hours.
Dunedin, yesterday
An explosion occurred at Fox’s quarry, Glen road, Oaversham, between 8 and 9 this morning. Oae man was killed and one seriously injured. The Glen qaarry accident was caused by a blast, whicn misfired yesterday, going off this morning, William Raynham, who was killed, was a married man, with four children, living at South Dunedin, William Dick, single, was wounded. Two mßn, King and Finerty, working on the stamper, were thrown into the air and escaped with a few scratches.
Later.—William .Dick, the seoond victim of the blasting aooident, died in the hospital at noon. The body of R. T. Smith, supposed to be a naval reserve man, working on H.M.S. Pioneer, was found in the upper harbor this morning.
A SUICIDE. BaSStgESI PRESS ASSOCIATION A. R- McDonald, apparently a recent arrival in the colony, shot himself with a pearitie in Bathgate’s busli at Mornington this afternoon. A noto addressed to the Police Department was found by liis side, stating, l; A Court of enquiry is not necessary. I have shot myself. I have not been feeling very well lately, Late address, Loclitockavaig, Isle of Ornsay, Isle of Skye, Scotland. I wish to be buried under the Hag of my country,” Deceased had evidently been a member of the South African Constabulary.
DROWNED IN HARBOR. REESS ASSOCIATION Dunedin, last night. The dead body of Harry Cooper, aged 35 years, who had boon employed as a billiard marker, was found in the harbor yesterday, A DOCTOR KILLED. ft ru* PRESS ASSOCIATION Dunedin, Isßt night. Dr James Martin, of Middiemaroh, was thrown out of bis trap between McKacs and Moonlight yesterday, and sustained fatal injuries. The deceased, who was unmarried, and about 54 years of ago, was in practice in this city with his brother, Dr Robert Martin, before he took up his Middiemaroh practice, a little over two years ago.
