A TRAGEDY, MAORI WOMAN MURDERED. PRESS ASSOCIATION Auckland, Saturday. A murder was committod by a Maori named Hirini Taui, aged 86, at a sottlomont near Kaikoho,. Bay of Islands, last night, tho victim being a Maori woman, Marata Ponoha. Sho was shot dead by Taui, who also shot at her son, seriously wounding him. NATIVE CONSTABLE’S WIFE AND SON SHOT. ; PRESS ASSOCIATION Auckland, last night. j The Kaikoho correspondent of the Stiij telegraphs ns follows in regard to th shooting ease: “Hirini llarhai Taui, of Tautoro, last night shot Mrs I'eneha Kingi, wife of the native constable at Kaikoho, also her son, fourteen years old. “ The woman died shortly afterwards. Her son is in a critical condition. “ Tho cause of tHo crime was jealousy. “ Taui, it is said, intended shooting his own wife, who was in the house with Mrs Kingi. Four shots were tired, the first wounding the woman, and tho second her son. Two other shots were tired, but had no effect. “ Constables Cahill and Kingi are in pursuit of Taui. “ Ho was last seen by a native named Waa, on tho road to Kaikou, with a gun slung across his shoulders. lie informed Waa that ho iudonded finishing his mission. “Ho said Waa would find papers in a well in a certain place, and asked him to carry out tho instructions containod J therein.”
