WELLINGTON NEWS.
PRESS ASSOCIATION Wellington, last night The Minister for Marine states that the Cabinet so far has not discussed the questions which will be brought forward by Now Zealand at the Imperial Mari Ulus Conference in London, on March I'd. The Pi-emior will represent tho colony. An important matter for consideration was tho validity of Now Zealand’s regulations as they affected ships trading in Now Zealand and intercolonial waters Tho real object of tho conference was to sco whothor they could arrive at a basis for a universal. Shipping Act for tho British Empire. Tho Meterological Department has been transferred to the Marino Department, aud with tho weather bureau will bo placed in charge of Captain Edwin. Tho Bov. Bates, who has been in charge of tho meteorological ollico for tho past two years, will bo assistant. In the Arbitration Court to-day an important point was raised in a case brought by tho Shipmasters' Association against tho Harbor Board. Thore were threo classes of servants inyolvod, namoly, tho harbormaster, tho pilots, and the dredgemasters. Counsel for tho Harbor Board submitted that tho Court had no jurisdiction on the grounds (I) that tho Shipmasters’ Association was not a union of workers under tho Act, hence its registration was invalid; (2) that thoro is no disputo botvveon tho Board and a uniou of workers ; (3) that tho Association is confined to shipmasters, and can only refer to tho Court a disputo relating to shipmasters or the shipping industry. Argument is proceeding. Tho English crickot team remain horo until Saturday and thence proceed to Kotorua. Tho match against Manawatu at Palmerston is postponed from the 6th 1 and 7th inst. until January 22nd and 1 23rd. 1
