Or Sheridan said ho would bamlikol to seo it sottlod whothcr thoy should appoint ouo of thoir own members or an outsidor. To test tho mattor ho moved that Mr Joyce bo appointed, I Gc Harding seconded the motion, and spoko highly of tho servioea of Mr John I aton, as well as Mr J lyoo. Cr Lysnar said the experioneo of the past showed it was ncocssary that representatives of tho Hospital should bo direct from tho Council. With this objoct in viow lie would movo that Cr Bright bo appointed as a Hospital trustoo. Thoro was no doubt they wanted a live representative, and as tho present Hospital Board was constituted, he had uo hope whatover of a change, as tho Hospital trustees had got into a groove. He did not want to see any one go on who would bo a tool and “ follow your leader ” business. Ho moved as an amendment that Cr Bright represent tho Borough Council as a Hospital trusteeCr Sheridan, with consent, withdrew his proposition. His Worship then moved that a councillor bo appointed by the Board. This was seconded by Cr Webb. Cr Millor said ho would voto against the motion.

Cr Harding thought much had been said about direct representation, but lie did not think thoy would have bettor service than givon by Mr Joyce and Mr Johnston.

Cr Wnioray ihought that it was advisable to havo direct representation by thß Ojunoil. At present the gentlemen hed been thore so loog that they woro a little happy family who thought no one else had a right to interfere, He had nothing to say about Messrs Jayoo and Johnston, as they had done their woik well. Ho believed that a resident medioal officer should be appointed, and things suoh as had appeared in print that day should not be allowed to tako piaoa. Ii the Cjuooil had diieoi representation on tho Board they wuuld havo no trouble to get tho it-?

'ormation they required from time lo ;ime.

Too . Mayor then put tho motion that tho Council have their own representative on the Board.

Ibis was carried, ihs Mayor, Gib Lysnar, Whinrey, Bright, and Webb voting for, and Crs dhandau, Harding, end Miller against, Cr Bees was proposed as the Gounod's representative by Ur Bheridau.—This was sEoouded by Cr Harding. Ur Blight was proposed by Oc Lysnar, otcoodsd by Cr Whiaray. Cr Bright was elected on tlic voto In returning thanks ho said tho mattor had taken him.by surprise. It' Cr Rees had been thore that evening he (Cr Bright) would have retired in his favor. He had not not seen Cr Bees that day, and did not know his mind on the matter, so had hold his tonguo and lot tho Council do as they pleased, ■ The Mayor moved a vote of thanks to the retiring trustees, .Messrs Joyce and Johnston, Ho paid a tribute to the work done by those gentlemen in the past. Cr Lysnar seconded tho motion of the Mayor, endorsing the remarks of His Worship. Cr Miller agreed with what had boon said by the Mayor with reference to Messrs Joyce and Johnston, and hoped, howovor, tho Council was not going to instruct Cr Bright how to voto as a Hospital trustee-1-Ie thought that Cr Bright would do just as ho thought in spite of the Council. Ho supported the vote of thanks to tho retiring trustees. Tho motion was carried. BYE-LAWS-

The Council then resolved itself into a committee to deal with the bye-laws.
