A fire broke out just before midnight in the grain and woo j B t or£S 0 f X) a thie and Go, Milton, Though the fire had a strong hold and the building was old, half the premises were saved. The fire originated at the roar of the building, where a quantity of guano was stored. Muoh of the grain was saved, also books and papers of the firm. The origin of the fire is traceable to live ashes.
A fire was discovered at 2.30 this morning in premises in the Octagon oooupied by Myers, pawnbroker, WilhelmseD, hairdresser, aad Mills, Dick and Go., printers and publishers, The cause of the outbreak is inexplicable. No one slept on the premises. The pawnbroker’s shop was gutted, and the rost of the buildioe taors of less damaged by water, Tha premises were owned by Mrs Cutler's trust, nod were insured for £I4OO in the New Zealand cilice. Tho ineuranoe on Myers’ pawnbroking stock is £SOO in the -North Bullish, on bts tailoring siock £lls in the Pnoenix, and on Wiihelmeen’s stock £75 in the Royal. “
Auckland, last night, A five-roomed house occupied by Robt. Black, of Davonporf, and. owned by R, c" McGuinc-ss, was totally destroyed by fire' on Saturday night. At tho time of the outbreak no ono was in the house. The causa of she fire is unknown. Nothing was saved. Au adjoining house, ocoupied by W. Simpson, had a very narrow osospe, Mr Bleek’s houso wsb insured in the Government oflioe for £l5O. It is not known whether there was any insuranceqq the furniture, ■ 8
