PRESS ASSOCIATION Weiinglon, last night. kjTke Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London, 24th inst.: The mutton market is dull. The demand has considerably fallen off. The stocks on hand, however, are light and firmly held in a few hands. The average price of Canterbury mutton is 4-ijd in small supply; North Island mutton sold at 4-ld, and is in good demand. For all lamb there is better tone in the market. The average price of New Zealand lamb is 5 5-8. Australian new season’s shipments are selling at sld. The beef market is dull, but the stocks of New Zealand are light, and are quoted at 4d and 3-jd for hind and forequarters respectively. The butter market us steady. Supplies are increasing, and buyers are holding back, expecting priceji to lower. Danish is quoted at 141 s, New Zealand 115 s, Argentine 113, ‘Australian 112, Canadian 110 s, Siberian lo4s per cwt. The cheese market is quiet, little business being transacted. A good feeling prevails. The stocks of Canadian are 106,000 boxes less than last years; Canadian makes are quoted at 13s per cwt. The hemp market is very firm. The cocksfoot seed market is steady. There is only a moderate demand. Bright 171 b dressed seed is 43s per cwt. The tallow market has a declining tendency. The grain market is quiet with no alterations in prices.
