The appearance of Mr Charles Vornor in the name part of tho sensational Irish melodrama “ Shamus O’Brien ” did not attract as full a house as the merit of his very excellent interpretation of it deserved. There is no occasion i to detail the plot of so ancient a picco as • * Shamus O'Brien,” and it will therefore i suffice to say that nothing was missed in Mr Vernor’s pourtrayal of the hero of I ’98,• In the cast ho was ably supported by Miss May Bradley as Mary lionoughmore, 1 whose acting called forth frequent plaudits from the audienco, and by Miss Esdaille j as Mrs O’Brien, and Miss De Gray as the Hon. Kathleen O’Beilly. Mr T. E. Tilton sustained the part of Captain McMurro very creditably, and “ Shadrach O’Finn ” found an exponent in Mr R. J, Oswald, while Mr Richmond Roy was sufficiently demure as Father Malone. As Sir Reginald Dare Mr John Lambert acquitted himself well; but Colonel Claverly suffered the disabilities of a defective memory and a lack of military bearing. Larry was re presented by Mr Frank Davenport, and the Cockney butler (William Wilkins) by Mr A. Leonard, who played his part very well. Taken as a whole the Company is not a well balanced one ; but what is lacking in some, is more than compensated by Mr Vcrner, and one or two of his supporters.
